j-hope – Safety Zone (Lyrics + Translation)

J-Hope | Jaicko Lawrence

Where’s my safe zone? (Ooh-ooh-ooh)
Let me know if you know (ooh-ooh-ooh)
Where’s my safe zone? (Ooh~ yeah)
Damn

nae isipdaereul bachimyeo
Dedicating my 20s,

mugungmujinhan salmeul salgo isseo
I’m living an immeasurable life

da boran deut eungdaphajiman
As if it’s for everyone to look at, I respond, but,

nal doraboran deut keojineun imyeong
as if it’s telling me I should look back into myself, the ringing in my ears becomes louder

sesangeun ppareuge byeonhago
The world changes fast,

geu sungan dareuge oerowo
and at every moment, a different feeling of loneliness hits me

goerowo aguneun eoptdeut
It’s painful, like there’s no ally,

Oh my gosh
nae salmi jeok jeok haejyeoga Oh my gosh
my life gets lonesome, oh my gosh¹

balmatchwo saragajiman, ppigeokdae (oh)
Living by keeping pace, but it creaks (oh)

Break a leg’
aesseo nareul wihae oechineun deuthae ‘Break a leg’
It’s as if I’m forcing myself to shout for myself, ‘Break a leg’

In my zone,
In my zone, dosim sok jal matchwo saramdo mannajiman
In my zone, I keep pace with the busy city and even meet people

gyotongjeongriga an doen chadeulcheoreom
But like those cars stuck with no traffic control

iri chiigo jeori chiigon hae (ow)
I’d get pushed and hit, left and right (ow)

nan wae eoptneunde? eodi gamyeon itneunde?
Why is it that I don’t have one? Where should I go to find one?

geimmajeo jal bomyeon anjeonjidaega itdeonde
Even in games, when you look around closely, you’d find a safe zone

geurae uimi eopsi balman gureuji
Yeah, I just meaninglessly stamp my feet in frustration

Porsche
igeon machi kkangtong Porsche
It’s like a tin can Porsche²

나도 가고 싶은데 where is that mindset?
nado gago sipeunde where is that mindset?
I also want to go, but where is that mindset?

nae simri sogeseodo itgineun han geolkka?
Does such a place even exist in my mind as well?

geu nugunganeun naege akkimeopsi jwosseul teoinde
I too must have had someone who was my Giving Tree,

jamsi dorikyeobogi wihan nae geuruteogineun eoditna?
but where’s the stump for me to sit on and look back for a moment?³

eodum sok andoui hanjulgi bicheun eodiilkka?
Where’s the ray of light to relieve me in the darkness?

gojeuneokhan home? animyeon jeo meon blueilkka?
Is it a tranquil home? Or the blue that is far, far away?*

Where’s my safe zone?

왼쪽 오른쪽 go straight?
oenjjok oreunjjok go straight?
Left, right, go straight?

What’s my safe zone?

Or X? (X)
igot? jeogot? Or X? (X)
Here, there, or X? (X)

eodum sok andoui hanjulgi bicheun eodiilkka?
Where’s the ray of light to relieve me in the darkness?

gojeuneokhan home? animyeon jeo meon blueilkka?
Is it a tranquil home? Or the blue that is far, far away?

Where’s my safe zone?

왼쪽 오른쪽 go straight?
oenjjok oreunjjok go straight?
Left, right, go straight?

What’s my safe zone?

Or X?
igot? jeogot? Or X?
Here, there, or X?

mideojuneun saramdeurui eungwon?
The cheers of people who believe in me?

(geudeuldo deungeul dollimyeon chagapgo)
(But it’ll feel cold when even they turn their back on me)

날 이끈 people?
nal ikkeun people?
The people who’ve led me?

(jal saenggakhae bomyeon duryeowo)
(But thinking carefully, I feel afraid)

pireul nanun saramdo teoreonoheul sun eoptneun samyeonggam
Even with someone who shares blood, there’s a sense of mission that I can’t share

yojeumeun saramboda dongmuri johdeora
These days, I tend to like animals over humans

But 느껴 자멸감
but neukkyeo jamyeolgam
But I feel, a sense of self-despise

imjongeul apdun noeul gata (shine, goes dark)
It’s like a sunset about to draw its last breath, (shine, goes dark)

밤과 새벽을 달래줄 light (right, for mine)
bamgwa saebyeogeul dallaejul light (right, for mine)
A light to comfort night and dawn (right, for mine)

Where’s that zone?

keun jaehaedo pihae ganeun naui green zonе
My green zone that even big disasters find a way around**

but i gireul seontaekhaneun sungan
But the moment I choose this path,

나의 safe zone
itgineun halkka? naui safe zone
will it even exist? My safe zone

eodum sok andoui hanjulgi bicheun eodiilkka?
Where’s the ray of light to relieve me in the darkness?

gojeuneokhan home? animyeon jeo meon blueilkka?
Is it a tranquil home? Or the blue that is far, far away?

Where’s the ray of light to relieve me in the darkness?

(Oh yeah) 고즈넉한 home?
(Oh yeah) gojeuneokhan home?
(Oh yeah) Is it a tranquil home?

(Ha-ha-ha)
animyeon jeo meon blueilkka? (Ha-ha-ha)
Or the blue that is far, far away? (Ha-ha-ha)

[JH/JL] Where’s my safe zone?

Ohh-hoo-hoo-hoo
Ooh-hoo-hoo-hoo (ha-ha-ha)
Where’s my safe zone?
Where’s my safe zone?
(Where’s my, where’s my safe zone…)

Translator notes (credits to doolsetbangtan):

¹ 적 [jeok] (敵) means enemy, and 적적하다 [jeok-jeok-ha-da] means to feel empty/lonely. So alternatively this line would mean “my life gets filled with enemy after enemy”.
² 깡통 [kkang-tong] (tin can) is a slang term for the cheapest, entry models of luxury car brands. All looks and no substance.
³ Reference to ‘The Giving Tree‘. The Korean title of the book is ‘아낌없이 주는 나무’ [a-kkim-eobs-i ju-neun na-mu], a literal translation of which is a tree that gives unsparingly.
*Reference to ‘HOME: ‘a tranquil, peaceful space of mine; yeah, I remember the time when I used to feel I could do everything’, and Blue Side: ‘Inside my heart, comforting me now, Blue’.
**Reference to ‘Green Zone‘, which used to be known as the safest area of Baghdad.
