j-hope – = (Equal Sign) (Lyrics + Translation)

J-Hope

urin seoro gatchwo siseondeureul matchwo
We prepare to see each other and meet each other’s eyes

saram wie saram eoptgo
No one is above anyone else,

Let’s roll
saram mite saram eopseo Let’s roll
and no one is below anyone else, let’s roll

(With love, with trust)
(With respect, step by step)

urin ajik sesange musimhae (musimhae)
We’re still indifferent to the world (indifferent)

gwansimi piryohae uriegen (uriegen)
We need to pay attention to ourselves

byeonhwaui sijageun godigie
because a change is soon to begin,

eojjeomyeon uriui moksigie
because perhaps it’s on us

mokswige oechyeodo sori eoptneun auseong
Though I try crying out until I lose my voice, it’s a silent outcry

piburo neukkineun dareun jeom
That I’m different, it’s palpable¹

jeongdanghage olla sommungchiro gaseum chimyeo gyauddung
Risen to the top by playing fair, I tilt my head in confusion and hit my chest in frustration

sesangeun neolpgo saram maeum cham jopda
It’s such a big, wide world, and such narrow minds people have

kkok gateul piryoneun eopseodo dareun ge wae joeilkka?
We don’t necessarily have to be the same, but why is it a sin to be different?

naireul neomeo uh seongbyeoreul neomeo uh
Beyond age, uh, beyond gender, uh

gukgyeongeul neomeo uh eojjeomyeon moduui sukje gateun geot
beyond nationality, uh, perhaps this is homework for everyone

nabuteo kkaeuchyeo chabyeol anin chaiin geot
I should first awaken myself to the truth, that it’s not to be discriminated, it’s just different

pyeongyeonui pihaeja araya hae geugeon uriin geot please
That the victim of prejudice is no one else but us, we need to know, please

Hate’ll paralyze your mind
Gotta see the other side
It costs ya nothin’ to be kind
Not so different, you and I
Lookin’ for love in a different light
Until we find that equal sign

(Same…)
(Same…) uriga swineun sumdeul
(Same…) The breaths we breathe

(Same…)
(Same…) uriga kkuneun kkumdeul
(Same…) The dreams we dream

(Same…)
(Same…) salm sok useumgwa nunmul
(Same…) The laughters and tears in our lives

(Same…)
(Same…) da jonjungbadeul pumdeul
(Same…) Each and every one of them deserves to be respected

Just a piece to give strength
In the puzzle of our hearts
It’ll all make sense one day
So I’m singing for love in this world~

Ay, come on
Let’s come together
Ooh, ooh~
Equality is you and me

Translator notes (credits to doolsetbangtan):

¹ 피부로 느끼다 [pi-bu-ro neu-kki-da], which literally means to feel something with/through someone’s skin, means to feel something first-hand. Given the theme of this track, I think it’s not a stretch to also read this line as “the (color of) my skin made me feel I’m different.”
