j-hope – Arson (방화) (Lyrics + Translation)

J-Hope

(Arson)
Let’s burn, burn, burn, burn
Burn, burn, burn, burn (no)
It’s done, done, done, done
Done, done, done, done (arson)

Let’s burn 내 열정에 burn
Let’s burn nae yeoljeonge burn
Let’s burn, to my passion, burn

nae yeomwone burn nae salm sogeul burn
To my desire, burn, inside my life, burn

Everyday I ran

meomchul su eoptdeon geuttae geu sijeol
In which I couldn’t stop, the old days

I burned it all and I wanted it all

명예는 first (first)
myeongyeneun first (first)
Fame came first (first)

Of course (get it up)
don? Of course (get it up)
Money? Of course (get it up)

인기까지도 (woo)
ingikkajido (woo)
Even popularity (woo)

nae seuseuroga gwayeori doel subakke eoptdeon
What gave me no other option but to overheat inside

mwotdo moreun musikhan nae yamangui wondongryeok
was the motivation fueled by my blind ambition

When I sweat, ooh

gireum syawohae (hey) bureul jipil su itge (oh)
I shower with oil (hey), so I can ignite myself (oh)

On my feet, on my legs (oh)

더 뜨겁게 run my way (oh)
deo tteugeopge run my way (oh)
Make it even hotter, run my way (oh)

daraoreuneun seongjeok tto ingineun jeongjeom (ayy)
With my success heating up and my popularity at its new peak (ayy)

비례하는 born hater (ayy)
biryehaneun born hater (ayy)
increasing in proportion is the number of born haters (ayy)

maebeon ullineun gyeongjeok (woo)
The constantly blasting noise coming from them (woo)

이마저 좋아 (woo)
imajeo joha (woo)
I love even this (woo)

‘Cause with my fans
With my label, with my fellas¹

같이 함께 타오르기에 all day
gati hamkke taoreugie all day
We burn through it all together, all day

haprijeogin gongbeom banghwabeom was fun
Rational accomplices, being an arsonist was fun

museoul geon eopseo
There’s nothing to fear

한 치 앞 fuck off (fuck off, fuck off)
han chi ap fuck off (fuck off, fuck off)
Even if it’s an inch in front of me, fuck off (fuck off, fuck off)

If anyone asks me (asks me)

“Right, 내가 바로 불을 지폈지” (지폈지)
“Right, naega baro bureul jipyeotji” (jipyeotji)
“Right, I’m the one who lit up the flame” (who lit up)

ijen naege mureo choose what?
Now I ask myself, choose what?

geu bureul kkeulji deo taoreulji (arson)
Do I put out the fire, or make it flare up even stronger? (Arson)

It’s done

naui kkumdo done keun seonggwado done
My dreams, done, big accomplishments, done

nae hal moktdo done deo isangeun none
My share of the work, done, beyond this, none

gwayubulgeubiya baksu chil ttae tteonaneun ge got meot
Too much is as bad as too little, to know to quit while being ahead, that’s the style²

naega bureul kyeotdeon geon nareul wihamieosseo
That I lit it up was for myself

sesangi taoreul jul nuga aratgesseo
That the world would burn in flames, who would’ve seen it coming?

jamsi sikhil ttaejjeum boni nae heunjeokdeuri boyeo
Looking around as it cools down a bit, I see my own traces

kkeugien neomu keunbul simhan banghwayeotdan geol ow shit!
It was too big a fire to put out, too serious an arson, ow shit!

tteugeowo andwae goerowo jam kkae
It’s too hot, stop, in agony, I wake up

nae imyeongwa contact museoun sangtae
Contact the hidden side of me, frozen in fear

Nobody can’t, nobody stop, shit

geu bureul kkeugien
Putting out the fire,

ojik namani ganeunghae hondonui fireman (shit)
I’m the only one who is capable of, a fireman in chaos (shit)

Oh, jinaphaedo jaecheoreom eodumui giril georago
Oh, that it’d be like a soot-covered path of darkness even if the fire is put out

Tell myself

A big hurdle an inch before my nose calls for a strategic move from me

doreul deonjil pando bikkyeoganeun han su
A move to help me not give up on this game³

Let’s burn, burn, burn, burn, burn, burn, burn, burn
(If anyone asks me (asks me))

(“Right, naega baro bureul jipyeotji” (jipyeotji))
(“Right, I’m the one who lit up the flame” (who lit up))

(ijen naege mureo choose what)
(Now I ask myself, choose what?)

(geu bureul kkeulji deo taoreulji (go))
(Do I put out the fire, or make it flare up even stronger? (Go))

It’s done, done, done, done, done, done, done, done
(If anyone asks me (asks me))

(“Right, naega baro bureul jipyeotji” (jipyeotji))
(“Right, I’m the one who lit up the flame” (who lit up))

(ijen naege mureo choose what)
(Now I ask myself, choose what?)

(geu bureul kkeulji deo taoreulji)
(Do I put out the fire, or make it flare up even stronger?)

Translator notes (credits to doolsetbangtan):

¹ Reference to ‘HANGSANG‘: “With ma label, our stepping stone; With ma fan, thank you; With ma team, always”.
² 과유불급 [gwa-yu-bul-geub] (過猶不及) is a phrase of Confucian wisdom that means to go beyond is as wrong as to fall short. A literal translation of the idiom used in 박수 칠 때 떠나다 [bak-su chil-ttae tteo-na-da] is “to leave when people still applaud.”
³ 돌을 던지다 [dol-eul deon-ji-da] (to throw a stone) is an old slang term used in the game of ‘Go‘ to describe a situation where a player acknowledges that there is zero chance for them to win the game and chooses not to proceed. A literal translation of the above line is “a move to help avoid a game where I’ll have to throw a stone.”
